Nine more people have died from measles and related symptoms in the past 24 hours in Bangladesh. During the period, 1,228 suspected measles cases were identified, while 113 people were confirmed to have contracted measles nationwide.
The figures were released by the Integrated Control Centre of the Health Services Division under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), based on data collected from 8am on Saturday to 8am on Sunday.
According to the DGHS statement, since 15 March this year, the total number of suspected measles cases across the country has reached 188,041, while 21,212 cases have been confirmed.
So far, the total number of deaths from suspected measles stands at 995, including 101 confirmed measles deaths. In addition, 166,310 patients with measles and related symptoms have been admitted to hospitals, of whom 159,519 have recovered and been discharged.
Among the nine deaths from suspected measles reported in the past 24 hours, the highest number was recorded in Dhaka division, with four deaths. Sylhet and Chattogram divisions reported two deaths each, while Mymensingh reported one.
During the same period, Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new cases, with 378 suspected and 64 confirmed measles infections. Among other divisions, Chattogram reported 313 suspected cases, Sylhet 153, Barishal 127, Mymensingh 98, Khulna 93, Rangpur 36 and Rajshahi 30.
Under the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Programme 18,015,064 people have so far been vaccinated across the country’s eight divisions against a target of 19,920,901, achieving a coverage rate of 110.6 per cent.
In the country’s 12 city corporations, 20,92,675 people have been vaccinated against a target of 19,05,950, with coverage reaching 109.8 per cent.
