VAT officials have detected an alleged Tk35.65 crore evasion by plastic products manufacturer J I Impex Ltd after uncovering sales records worth Tk621.74 crore during an inspection of its facility in Bhairab, Kishoreganj.
A preventive team of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (East) conducted the raid on 8 September at the company’s premises in Bhairab Bazar based on a tip-off, according to the commissionerate.
During the operation, officials seized commercial documents, computer records and sales-related papers under VAT Form 12.3 for verification.
The seized materials included 12 clip files, 98 bundles of commercial documents, 22 plastic folders, one CPU, four tally books, four registers, truck rental documents, memo files, truck driver expense records and computer-printed sales documents signed by company officials.
After reviewing the seized documents, VAT officials found 72 folders containing monthly records of product supplies to different organisations between 2023 and September 2026.
The documents showed sales worth Tk621.74 crore, based on which officials initially estimated VAT evasion of Tk35.65 crore.
The VAT authority said legal proceedings against J I Impex Ltd for alleged VAT evasion are being processed.
