Six fishermen were detained for catching jatka (juvenile hilsa) in the Meghna River sanctuary area of Chandpur Sadar, in violation of an ongoing government ban.
Following their detention, a mobile court sentenced three of the men to 15 days of non-rigorous imprisonment.
The remaining three detainees, who are children, were released into custody of their guardians after providing a written undertaking.
The convicted individuals have been identified as Asif Molla, 20 and Md Kala, 20, both residents of the Jamuna Road Tila Bari area of Chandpur town, and Md Sagar Hossain, 28 from Madrasa Road.
Sadar Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Md Mizanur Rahman reported on Saturday that a joint operation was conducted by the Upazila Fisheries Department and the Coast Guard on Friday night.
The drive, which took place between 8:30pm and 11:30pm in the Meghna estuary, led to the apprehension of the fishermen in the Ananda Bazar area.
The mobile court proceedings were held at the Coast Guard station and were presided over by Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Bappi Dutta Roni.
