Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath to 21 newly appointed permanent judges of the High Court Division on Wednesday afternoon, with one judge expected to take the oath later due to health reasons.
The ceremony was held at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge, attended by judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court, Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, and relatives of the newly sworn-in justices.
The judges who took their oaths are Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, Md Mansur Alam, Syed Zahed Mansur, KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, Md Jabid Hossain, Mubina Asaf, Kazi Waliul Islam, Aynun Nahar Siddiqua, Md Abdul Mannan, Tamanna Rahman Khalidi, Md Shofiul Alam Mahmood, Md Hamidur Rahman, Nasreen Akter, Shathika Hossain, Syed Mohammed Tazrul Hossain, Md Toufiq Inam, Yousuf Abdullah Suman, Sk Tahsin Ali, Foyej Ahmed, Md Sagir Hossain, and Sikder Mahmudur Razi.
Supreme Court Registrar General Mohammad Habibur Rahman confirmed that Justice Syed Enayet Hossain could not attend the event as he is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, and his oath will be administered at a later date. The Registrar General also conducted the oath-taking ceremony.
The government formalised the appointments of 22 new High Court judges, who were previously serving as additional judges following their appointment in October last year, by making them permanent on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a gazette notification under the President’s authority, confirming that the appointments would become effective from the moment each judge takes the oath.
