Police have arrested 14 people in two separate cases filed over a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Magura centring on the distribution of government rice cards.

Magura Additional Superintendent of Police Crime and Ops Mirajul Islam disclosed the information to journalists on Thursday afternoon.

He said there are clear instructions from higher authorities that those involved in the incident will be brought under the law irrespective of political affiliation.

The arrested are Md Suman Biswas, 33, Jamil Sheikh, 31, Md Robin Khan, 31, Bachchu Mia, 46, Md Saiful Islam, 44, Md Osman, 23, Md Sabbir Hossain, 25, Md Hafizul Islam, 27, Shanta Biswas, 19, Md Arif Sheikh, 35, Md Anwar Hossain, Md Monirul Sheikh, Mosha Shika Begum, 26, and Abul Hossain Abu, 56.

Law enforcement officials said legal action will be taken against those found responsible following a proper investigation.

On Wednesday evening, at least 15 people were injured in a clash between two local BNP factions at Bhatikadanga intersection in Magura municipality over the distribution of government rice cards.

The incident also led to extensive vandalism at a local BNP office.
