Kwak Si-yang and former Lovelyz member Yoo Ji-ae have turned to handwritten letters to share their surprise marriage news with fans.
According to The Korea Times, the South Korean actor and singer-actress posted their letters on social media on Thursday, a day after announcing that they will marry on 28 November. The couple had not previously been publicly linked romantically.
Kwak shared a photo of his handwritten letter and said he wanted to tell fans the news personally. He revealed that he had met someone precious with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life.
“Based on our trust and love for each other, we have promised to walk through life together,” he wrote. “We hope to build a warm family, supporting each other through difficult times and sharing laughter in happy moments.”
Kwak also thanked his fans for their support. He promised to remain active as an actor after starting a family.
“I will work hard to show you a more mature side of myself as I start a family, as well as good projects and performances as an actor,” he wrote.
Yoo shared her own handwritten letter on the same day. She said she had met someone with whom she wanted to share her future and that they had happily decided to make a new start together.
“I know many of you must have been surprised, but I would be happy if you could warmly celebrate my new beginning with kind hearts,” she wrote.
Yoo also thanked fans for standing by her over the years and promised to continue working with the same dedication.
“I will continue to work hard and show you the same dedication as always,” she said.
News of their marriage broke on Thursday and quickly drew attention because the two had kept their relationship private. Kwak’s agency, 9ato Entertainment, said the couple had decided to build a future together based on their deep trust and love for each other.
The couple will hold a private wedding on 28 November. Family members and close acquaintances will attend the ceremony.
Born in 1987, Kwak made his acting debut in the 2014 film Night Flight. He later appeared in TV dramas including Glorious Day, Oh My Ghost, Mirror of the Witch, Flex X Cop and My Dearest Nemesis.
Yoo, born in 1993, debuted as a member of Lovelyz in 2014. The group became known for songs including Ah-Choo and Destiny.
After her time with Lovelyz, Yoo expanded her career into acting. She has appeared in dramas including The Escape of the Seven and The Third Marriage.
