Bangladesh and India have agreed to enhance military cooperation and capacity building following a meeting between Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi and Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam.
The courtesy call took place on Wednesday at the defence adviser’s office located in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment.
At the beginning of the meeting, the defence adviser and the Indian high commissioner exchanged mutual greetings.
Fruitful discussions were held on joint training programmes aimed at the professional development of the armed forces, alongside the exchange of mutual experience and training among military officials.
The talks also covered crucial matters including disaster management, regional peace, and maritime security.
Highly praising the activities undertaken by the government in the socio-economic sector, Trivedi said India attaches immense importance to its deep military and strategic relationship with Bangladesh.
He reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to working together in future regarding professional cooperation, capacity building, and areas of mutual interest concerning security between the armed forces of both nations.
Both sides expressed their determination to work together as neighbouring countries in strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, preserving regional stability, and tackling common global challenges.
