The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, has requested that Bangladeshi officials be sent to India for training.
The high commissioner made this request during a meeting on Monday with Prime Minister’s Public Administration Affairs Adviser and BNP Standing Committee Member Md Ismail Zabihullah. The meeting focused on enhancing mutual communication and advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
At the outset of the dialogue, the high commissioner greeted the adviser with flowers and exchanged pleasantries, before they went on to exchange views on various dimensions of their bilateral ties.
Ismail said that Bangladesh and India are friendly neighbouring countries that share a long border. He emphasised that reducing border killings to zero is vital for fostering understanding between the people of both nations. He also urged for a reduction in the bilateral trade deficit and called for securing a fair share of the Ganges water.
Additionally, the adviser stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations rather than keeping relations limited to a specific political party. He expressed hope that bilateral relations would be bolstered under the skilled leadership of the current Indian high commissioner.
During the meeting, High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi highlighted the shared culture and historical ties between Bangladesh and India. He also pointed out the high demand for Bangladeshi Hilsa fish in India.
While repeating his request to send Bangladeshi officials to India for training, Trivedi stressed the importance of resuming training and skill development programmes between the public administrations of the two nations.
The high commissioner expressed hope that bilateral cooperation would expand further for mutual benefit, emphasising the need to drive the relationship forward in the interest of the people of both countries. He also expressed his hope to meet again.
Concerned officials of the Indian High Commission were present at the meeting.
