Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed law enforcement agencies to be stricter in stopping the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic.
He issued this directive on Wednesday during a review meeting on environmental pollution control held under his chairmanship at the Secretariat.
At the meeting, Tarique directed law enforcement agencies to take a tougher stance against the unchecked use of polythene and plastic, while asking relevant ministries, divisions, and agencies to properly perform their respective duties.
The meeting discussed the implementation of progress and future actions regarding various government initiatives to control environmental pollution, including increasing the use of environment-friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil, and noise pollution, and waste management.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Shaikh Rabiul Alam; State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam; State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad; State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani; Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar; Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Md Abdus Salam; and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (Environment, Forest and Climate Change affairs) Saimum Parvez, alongside senior officials of the relevant ministries, divisions, and agencies.
