Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher has said that there will be no shelter for corrupt individuals in the ministry.
He stated, “The proper use of public tax money must be ensured, and development work must be completed within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards. If any negligence in performing duties is proven, those concerned will have to face punishment.”
The Housing and Public Works minister made these remarks on Sunday at an exchange of views meeting with officials of departments and agencies under the ministry, held at the conference room of the Public Works Department in Segunbagicha.
State Minister Ahmed Sohel Monjur and Secretary Md Nazrul Islam were present at Sunday’s exchange meeting with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Department of Architecture, National Housing Authority, and Urban Development Directorate.
Addressing the officials further, the Public Works minister said, “If any political pressure arises during the discharge of duties, we will handle it. You will perform your duties within the existing laws of the country. You will clearly point out the law regarding illegal matters and learn to say ‘no’ when necessary. Work fearlessly and with honesty.”
Referring to housing for middle and lower-income people in Dhaka, the Public Works minister said, “If we all take constructive thinking and effective initiatives together for the welfare of the country, their standard of living will improve.”
Addressing officials at the exchange meeting, State Minister Ahmed Sohel Monjur said, “You will perform your duties fearlessly. Avoiding past thinking, you must work with responsibility to build the Bangladesh of tomorrow. There is no scope to loot the hard-earned tax money of the people without working. Our government’s position on corruption and nepotism is clear – zero tolerance.”
Also present at the meeting were Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department Md Khalequzzaman Chowdhury, Chairman of the National Housing Authority Mosammat Ferdousi Begum, Chief Architect Md Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director of the Urban Development Directorate M Mahmud, along with officials from the concerned departments.
At the exchange meeting, department heads presented the activities and future work plans of their respective departments.
At the beginning of the exchange meeting, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher and State Minister Ahmed Sohel Monjur were greeted with flowers by PWD Chief Engineer Md Khalequzzaman Chowdhury and Chief Architect Md Asifur Rahman Bhuiyan.
