The Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will be partially opened on 16 December, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said on Tuesday.

The minister announced the opening schedule while inspecting the terminal in the morning. He said an ultimatum had been issued to the Japanese organisation involved in the project to ensure the terminal’s launch as planned.

Operations at the terminal will be expanded gradually, with Civil Aviation expected to take full responsibility for its management by the middle of next year, he said.

Once the construction work of the Third Terminal is fully completed, the facility will be able to handle around 200 to 250 aircraft annually, according to the minister.

He said Bangladesh’s revenue share from the terminal project has been increased from 15 per cent to 27 per cent.

The minister said passenger service improvement remains a key priority, with authorities working to ensure that passengers receive their luggage within 15 minutes of landing.

He added that the full operation of the Third Terminal would significantly increase the airport’s capacity and improve passenger service standards.
