20 medical students injured in Cumilla bus crash

At least 20 students of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College were injured after an excursion bus carrying them lost control and fell into a roadside ditch in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 4:30am in the Jinglatoli area of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

The injured students were identified as Jawad, Ferdous, Koushi, Miraj, Mursalin, Imon Mridha, Arif, Shofiqul Islam, Maliha Mehnaz, Rayhan, Sazia, Taspia, Ariful Islam, Samiul, Rajarshi, Tasnim, Humayra, Mila, Nisa and Tanzina.

Of the injured students, nine were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

The students of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College were travelling from Barishal to Cox’s Bazar as part of their annual excursion. Following the accident, they cancelled the tour and returned.

Daudkandi Highway Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector Nur Uddin Bahar said police rushed to the spot after receiving the information and rescued the injured students.

“There were 40 students on the bus. Twenty of them were injured in the accident, while nine were sent to Dhaka for treatment,” he said.
