A two-day programme exploring the rhythmic compositions and diverse musical patterns of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on 9 and 10 September, bringing together around 200 percussionists.
Titled “Nazruler Chhandataranga” (Nazrul’s Rhythmic Waves), the programme is being organised under the initiative of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
It will take place at rehearsal rooms 104 and 105 of the academy’s Music and Dance Centre building.
The sessions will be held in two shifts on both days, from 10am to 2pm and from 3pm to 7pm.
According to officials at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the programme will explore the rhythmic language and structures developed by Nazrul, alongside his approach to percussion and the wider artistic possibilities of rhythmic performance.
A major feature of the event will be collective practice sessions involving the participating percussionists. Through ensemble performances, the artists will explore and interpret Nazrul’s distinctive rhythmic ideas.
The organisers said the initiative aims to showcase the depth of Nazrul’s musical innovations while highlighting their continued relevance to Bangladesh’s musical traditions.
By bringing together nearly 200 percussionists, Nazruler Chhandataranga seeks to offer a collective exploration of the rhythmic dimensions of Nazrul’s musical legacy.
