A mosque imam and a madrasah teacher were killed when a bus collided with their motorcycle on the Faridpur-Barishal highway in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur on Monday night.

The accident occurred around 10:00pm near Babnatala Bridge on the highway.

The deceased were identified as Anisur Rahman, 28, son of Abdur Rab from Sumkhali area of Patuakhali, and Salauddin, 30, son of Farid Howlader from Diyashur village in Gournadi upazila of Barishal.

According to preliminary information, Salauddin worked as an imam at a mosque while Anisur was employed as a madrasah teacher.

Police and local sources said the two were travelling from Dhaka towards Barishal on a motorcycle. When they reached the Babnatala Bridge area, their motorcycle collided with a Doshmina Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction.

Both riders sustained critical injuries and were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Bhanga Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector Kazi Obaidul Kabir confirmed the incident, saying police rushed to the spot after receiving the information, recovered the bodies and seized the bus.

“The driver and helper fled the scene immediately after the accident. Efforts are underway to arrest them,” he said.
