It has been nearly two years since Zayed Khan moved to the United States. He is frequently seen at various cultural events in the area. Recently, he also joined the New York–based Bangla newspaper Thikana as its Head of Entertainment Department. He is now regularly hosting a celebrity show for the outlet. This time, he has acted in a short film produced by the same organization.
In a Facebook Messenger conversation with Times of Bangladesh, Zayed Khan said the short film is titled American Dream, directed by JK. It will be released on Friday, March 6 at 10 PM Bangladesh time and 11 AM US time on all social media platforms of Thikana. The film has been made as part of Thikana’s series titled Immigrant Diaries.
The short film portrays the struggle of Bangladeshi immigrants trying to survive and establish themselves in the United States. He said, “For every young person who comes to America, this country is not just a land of dreams. Behind it lies struggle, sacrifice, and many unseen realities.”
He added that the photo of him wearing a construction worker’s outfit that recently went viral was actually a scene from this short film. Shooting that scene was quite challenging for him. Zayed said, “I may not have to go through such hardship to stay here. I’m regularly doing shows and holding a major responsibility at Thikana. Now I’ve acted again as well. But many Bangladeshis have to take on very difficult jobs to establish themselves in America. You can’t truly understand that reality unless you see it with your own eyes.”
Zayed also said that he has applied for a green card in the United States and hopes to receive it soon. As for when he will return to Bangladesh, he said no decision has been made yet.
