Small-screen actor Zaher Alvi has sparked fresh controversy following a Facebook post dedicated to his late wife, Afra Ibnath Khan Iqra. While intended as a heartfelt message, the post quickly went viral and drew criticism rather than sympathy.
In the post, Alvi addressed Iqra as ‘Iqli’ and wrote about questions he hoped to ask her one day: “Someday I will come to you and ask for answers! If I were in your place today, would the whole world still turn against you? Would they have tried to drag you down? If their livelihoods were so important, could they have exposed you in such a cruel way without thinking about the future?”
His post continued: “Very soon, I will sit with you on the top of a mountain and listen to you. I will hear how it felt to come before me and play this world of lies! Did you get satisfaction? I will get angry, I will be arrogant, you will say sorry again, I will hug you and say that it’s okay. By evening, we will both be lost again.”
The post sparked strong reactions in the comment section. Many accused Alvi of using emotion to evade responsibility, questioning whether such a message was appropriate amid the ongoing controversy. In response to mounting criticism, he temporarily closed comments. Screenshots of the post continued to circulate widely, with some suggesting it was an attempt to sway public opinion, while others defended his right to express grief.
Discussion around Iqra’s death has already been intense. Her family claimed she suffered a mental breakdown due to Alvi’s alleged relationship with colleague Iffat Ara Tithi. Iqra’s father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed a case at Dhaka’s Pallabi Police Station.
Alvi and Tithi recently travelled to Nepal to shoot a drama. Rumours circulated that the trip was arranged to celebrate Tithi’s birthday on February 27, which Alvi denied.
Iqra passed away the following day, February 28, intensifying speculation about Alvi and Tithi’s relationship.
