A 21‑year‑old youth was killed in a wild elephant attack near Garo Hills border in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona early Tuesday.
The victim, Pranto Rangsa, son of Lipson Nokrek of Bhabanipur village, was returning home after guarding paddy fields when he came face to face with an elephant around 1:15am. He died on the spot after being attacked.
Local forest officer Majnu Pramanik said elephants often enter Bhabanipur from India’s Meghalaya state to feed on ripe paddy. Farmers usually gather at night to drive them away.
He added that financial assistance will be provided to the victim’s family.
