A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the seizure of tax documents belonging to former chief whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury in connection with corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz issued the order after accepting a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against former chief whip.
According to the ACC’s submission, the former chief whip allegedly accumulated illegal assets worth Tk57.49 crore, which remain in his possession.
The anti-graft body also cited suspicious financial transactions totaling Tk232.11 crore conducted through eight separate bank accounts.
“The ACC filed a case over the allegation on 25 March, 2026. To ensure a proper investigation, it is necessary to seize his tax records up to the 2024–25 fiscal year,” the petition stated.
The court granted the request, directing authorities to take necessary steps to secure the documents as part of the ongoing investigation.
