Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has said that a ‘Yes’ vote should be cast in the referendum to eliminate injustice, unfairness, and discrimination from the country.
He made the remark as the chief guest at a meeting at the Bogura Zila Parishad auditorium on Monday.
The meeting, organised by the Bogura district administration, aimed to increase voter confidence, ensure a peaceful and participatory environment for the national election, and raise awareness regarding the referendum.
Addressing the event, Asif Nazrul said, “The fascist government did not allow voting in the last three elections over the past 15 years. The Awami League government has deprived the people of Bangladesh of their right to vote.”
He further said, “You will determine your own government. Previously, Sheikh Hasina used to decide this. They remained in power through night-time voting and votes for dummy candidates. But this time, an environment for everyone to vote has been created.”
Emphasising the significance of the referendum, he said, “If you want to remove injustice, unfairness, oppression, corruption, and discrimination from the country, vote ‘Yes’. And if you are in favour of injustice, unfairness, and exploitation, vote ‘No’.”
He explained that the July Charter was finalised after discussions with all political parties and added that it is now essential to gauge public opinion through a referendum. “The main point is, one should vote ‘Yes’ so that no one holds absolute power and no one can become a fascist,” he added.
Bogura Deputy Commissioner Md Taufiqur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Md Sahadat Hossain, and other officials were present at the event.
