The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday continued recording witness testimonies in the case over the killing of six students in Dhaka’s Chankharpul area during July Uprising.
The 20th prosecution witness, an eyewitness to the incident, testified before the tribunal today marking the 12th day of witness examination in the case. Earlier, prosecution adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan had given testimony as the previous witness.
According to tribunal sources, six accused, all then members of the police have been charged in connection with the Chankharpul killings.
The accused include former Habibur Rahman, Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) ; Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC) ; Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Shahbagh Police Station, along with four constables. Of the eight accused, four are currently in custody while four remain absconding.
In a separate development, former army officer Ziaul Ahsan was produced before the tribunal today in a case over enforced disappearances.
The case also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a co-accused. Prosecutors informed the tribunal that they would seek additional time to submit the investigation progress report, while the tribunal is expected to set a new date for its submission.
Meanwhile, the prosecution filed a petition seeking a change of the previously fixed November 19 hearing date in two enforced disappearance cases against 13 of the 15 former army officers brought before the tribunal last week. The tribunal is scheduled to hear the petition today.
The tribunal also heard updates on the progress of the investigation into the killing of Golam Nafis during the July–August mass uprising in the Farmgate area.
Prosecutors briefed the court on the current stage of the inquiry and are expected to request a new date for the next proceedings.
