Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strongly rejected a smear campaign in the form of a news report published by the online portal Dhakatruth.com that claimed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was secretly investigating the force’s Director General (DG) along with several army officers.
In a statement on Sunday, BGB said the article , titled “ACC intelligence unit secretly investigating BGB DG and nine army officers”, contained fabricated, baseless and intentionally misleading allegations aimed at harming the reputation of the current DG.
The force said it immediately contacted ACC authorities after the report surfaced and was informed that no inquiry exists against the BGB chief.
According to the statement, the accusations were likely circulated by an individual who may have lodged an unjustified complaint and, after failing to gain attention, launched a malicious smear campaign.
BGB said its DG is widely known for his personal and professional integrity and zero tolerance toward wrongdoing. It said linking him to unfounded corruption claims was a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.
The statement further noted that such “false and deceptive” reporting not only misleads the public but also seeks to damage the reputation of a nationally respected security force.
Calling for responsible journalism, BGB urged all media outlets to refrain from spreading misinformation that goes against the national interest.
