The United States has deported 39 more Bangladeshi nationals. They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 5:30am on Friday on a special US military flight.
Airport authorities facilitated their arrival, while BRAC provided transportation assistance and emergency support.
Of the returnees, 26 are from Noakhali. Two each are from Cumilla, Sylhet, Feni and Lakshmipur, while one each is from Chattogram, Gazipur, Dhaka, Munshiganj and Narsingdi. Earlier this year, the US administration sent back 187 Bangladeshis.
According to BRAC’s Migration Programme, at least 34 of the 39 had travelled to Brazil with clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET). From Brazil, they attempted to enter the United States illegally via Mexico.
Of the remaining five, two travelled directly to the US and three entered via South Africa.
After they applied to remain in the United States, the US authorities completed the legal process and subsequently decided to deport them to Bangladesh.
