Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury has taken oath as a permanent judge of the High Court Division.
Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury administered the oath at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge around 11am, in presence of judges from both divisions and senior court officials.
On 21 September, the president appointed Justice Debasish, previously an additional judge of the High Court Division, as a permanent judge in consultation with the Chief Justice under Article 95 of the Constitution, according to a gazette notification.
Born on 1 March 1981, Justice Debasish earned his LLB (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton, UK, a postgraduate diploma from the College of Law of England and Wales, and law certificates from Holborn College, UK.
He enrolled as an advocate in the district court in 2005, at the High Court Division in 2007, and at the Appellate Division in 2018. He was appointed an additional judge of the High Court Division on 8 October 2024.
