Prominent banker Sufia Akter has recently joined United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) as deputy managing director (DMD).
In her new role, she will lead the bank’s Wholesale Banking Division, a move described by the bank as a significant step in its ongoing journey of transformation and prosperity, reads a press release.
With a distinguished career spanning over 26 years, Sufia brings a wealth of experience from both leading global and local financial institutions. Her professional background includes tenures at HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, The City Bank PLC, Meghna Bank PLC, and Bank Asia PLC.
Prior to joining UCB, she played a pivotal role at Bank Asia PLC, where she established the Transaction Banking Department within the Corporate and Investment Banking Division, contributing to remarkable business growth in a short period.
Sufia possesses extensive expertise in Corporate Banking, Transaction Banking, Cash Management, Trade Finance, Treasury Solutions, and Working Capital Financing. She has a proven track record of successfully leading business transformation initiatives and building high-performing teams to achieve sustainable growth.
A graduate of the globally recognised Future CEO Programme and the Future CEO Leadership Recharge Programme (WSDA New Zealand), Sufia has furthered her strategic leadership and executive decision-making capabilities through these international institutions.
