JMI Group held a peace rally and discussion session in Dhaka on Monday marking its 17th consecutive year of observing the United Nations-declared World Peace Day.
The rally began in front of Curzon Hall at the University of Dhaka, went around Doyel Chattor and ended at the Press Club intersection, said a press release on Tuesday.
JMI Group Founder and Managing Director Md Abdur Razzaq inaugurated the rally by releasing balloons and white doves, symbols of peace. A discussion session followed at the Abdus Salam Auditorium of the National Press Club.
Speakers at the event emphasised the importance of observing World Peace Day to create public awareness for achieving happiness and peace for humanity, regardless of nationality, religion or race. They urged everyone to come forward to build a world of equality and harmony.
Md Abdur Razzaq, addressing the discussion as chief guest, said: “For the past 17 years, JMI Group has been celebrating World Peace Day in Bangladesh. Every year, we unite with an open mind to stand beside the oppressed and work to establish peace and fundamental rights.”
He added: “I believe that peace is not just a word; it is a way of life. Since its inception, JMI Group has been dedicated to serving humanity. Over the past 27 years, every step we have taken has been in favour of peace and humanity. Today, we are proud that JMI Group is recognised as one of the largest industrial families in the country, with over 9,000 employees across 43 subsidiaries.”
JMI Group Chairman Md Jabed Iqbal Pathan said in his presidential speech: “Every member of the JMI family is committed to upholding the theme of the United Nations-designated World Peace Day. Peace is not just for a specific group; it is the right of all humanity. Peace does not simply mean the absence of war but the establishment of human rights and justice.”
University of Dhaka Peace and Conflict Studies Department Associate Professor Md Touhidul Islam attended as special guest.
