Coaches working with the divisional teams in the upcoming National Cricket League (NCL) could receive a 25 per cent increase in their season payments, with the proposal discussed at a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meeting on Tuesday.
The proposed hike has not yet been approved, but a BCB source who attended the meeting told TIMES that officials indicated there was a strong possibility of increasing the payments from this season.
The issue was raised during a meeting of the BCB Tournament Committee ahead of the NCL, with BCB coach Tushar Imran bringing up the matter of increasing payments.
“The issue was discussed in the meeting. Tushar Imran raised the matter of increasing the coaches’ payments. The officials said the payments could be increased by 25 percent from this season,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
“Nothing has been finalised yet, but there is a strong possibility,” the source added.
While the 25 percent increase remains a proposal, the current payment structure has already been confirmed for the upcoming season. A first-class cricketer will receive Tk150,000 for playing a single four-day NCL match, while a coach working throughout the four-day competition will receive Tk250,000.
A coach will receive another Tk100,000 for the NCL T20, taking the total payment for both competitions to Tk350,000, excluding daily allowances, according to a source within the BCB Tournament Committee.
The payment structure has been a concern among domestic coaches, with one veteran coach previously telling TIMES that he could earn more by working at an academy during the NCL season.
The proposed hike comes as the BCB has increased first-class match fees and players’ salaries while introducing divisional baggy caps and designated-colour helmets.
The NCL four-day competition is scheduled to begin on October 3, with eight teams set to compete across seven venues. The tournament will run until November 17.
