Financial assistance of Tk3 lakh each has been handed over to the families of four deceased victims of a gas cylinder explosion at Pretty Composite Textile Limited in Jamgora, Savar.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Vice-President Md Rezwan Selim distributed the cash aid on behalf of Pretty Composite Textile Limited on Wednesday afternoon.
The four aid recipients were identified as cloth shopkeeper Zainab Begum, vegetable vendor Md Nazrul Islam, covered van driver Md Shamsul Alam, and covered van helper Manik.
The aid distribution event was attended by BGMEA Head of Crisis Mansoor Khaled, Arbitration Committee Chairman Rafiqul Islam, Pretty Group Director of Administration Brigadier General (retd) Mohiuddin, Pretty Composite Textile Limited General Manager (HR and Compliance) Kamrul Islam, General Manager (Administration) Colonel (retd) Arman, and Human Resources Department Manager Mazharul Islam, alongside workers’ representatives.
The fatal incident occurred on 20 September when a fire broke out following a gas cylinder explosion involving a covered van in Jamgora, Savar, leaving eight people dead.
Factory authorities have promised to provide an equal amount of compensation to the families of the remaining victims once the body identification process is completed.
In addition, the factory management provided an extra Tk50,000 in cash to each victim’s family for burial expenses.
Meanwhile, the local district administration provided Tk25,000 each to two families.
Five of the bodies were charred beyond recognition and have been sent for DNA testing for identification.
