Two assistant proctors have resigned from the proctorial body of Chittagong University (CU). They are Professor Md Bazlur Rahman of the Marketing Department and Professor Parveen Akhter of the Botany Department.
The university authorities accepted the resignation letters submitted by the two assistant proctors on Sunday, citing different reasons.
They submitted their resignation letters to the Registrar (Acting) Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam. The university’s Proctor, Professor Hossain Shaheed Sarwardi, recommended their resignations.
According to university sources, Assistant Proctor Md. Bazlur Rahman had submitted a letter to the CU Registrar on 19 February seeking relief from his duties. However, the university administration did not approve his resignation at that time. In the letter, he cited academic commitments in his department.
In the letter addressed to Registrar Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam, he stated, “Due to the additional pressure of departmental academic work, it is not possible for them to continue performing duties as assistant proctor.” It has been learned that Assistant Proctor Professor Bazlur Rahman is preparing to go to Canada for higher education.
Meanwhile, Assistant Proctor Professor Parveen Akhter, the only female member of the proctorial body, submitted her resignation citing physical illness, family commitments, and personal reasons. She sent her resignation letter to the CU Registrar on Sunday.
When contacted, Assistant Proctor Md Bazlur Rahman said, “I have not been doing any official work of the proctorial body since 1 March. I decided to resign due to departmental and research work pressures. The decision was made after discussions with everyone. The resignation letter was submitted to the Registrar through the Proctor. He accepted it immediately.”
Regarding the matter, University Registrar Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam said, “Their resignation letters reached me today. The Vice-Chancellor will be informed about their resignations through the prescribed process.”
