One passenger was killed and two others, including the driver, were injured in a collision between a truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw in the capital’s Shyampur area.
The accident occurred around 1:30pm on Sunday beside Ecopark near Shyampur Bazar.
The deceased was identified as Sheikh Farid, 52, son of late Obaidullah from Bhalashpur village under Chandraganj police station in Lakshmipur.
He had been living in Palashpur area of Kadamtali in Dhaka and worked as a clothes seller using a van.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 5pm. Victim’s maternal uncle Soyeb Morshed said Farid was travelling from Kadamtali to Keraniganj by CNG autorickshaw to purchase goods.
The autorickshaw collided with a truck near Shyampur Bazar, leaving him seriously injured, and passers-by later took him to hospital, where he was declared dead.
Dhaka Medical Police Camp In-charge Md Faruk confirmed the death and said the body has been kept at the morgue.
Another passenger, identified as Yamin, 30, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Kadamtali Police Station Sub-Inspector Musahidul Islam said the truck has been seized but its driver fled the scene.
He added that the injured driver received treatment at a private hospital.
