Songs, dance and recitations brought the works of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam to life as Chhayanaut’s Autumn 2026 programme united students from four educational institutions at St Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka on Friday.

Titled “Jog De Re Aj Saman Tane”, the programme was jointly organised by Chhayanaut and St Joseph Higher Secondary School on the school premises in Mohammadpur. Students from St Joseph Higher Secondary School, St Joseph International School and College, Excel Academy and Nalanda High School performed alongside Chhayanaut artistes.

The event opened with a group song and dance performance of Tagore’s “Shorote Aaj Kon Otithi”. Students from all participating institutions sang, while Chhayanaut artistes performed the dance.

Nalanda High School followed with a group song and dance rendition of Tagore’s “Alor Omol Komolkhani”. Students then recited his “Shorot (Aji Ki Tomar Modhur Muroti)” together. Mehereen Fatema performed “Tomra Ja Bolo Tai Bolo”, while Sudarshana Alokananda Kundu sang “Bhorer Jhiler Jole”, composed by Nazrul. The segment also featured a group recitation of Sunirmal Basu’s “Sobar Ami Chhatra”.

Excel Academy presented a group song and dance performance of Tagore’s “Dekho Dekho, Dekho, Shuktara Ankhi Meli Chay”. Students sang as Chhayanaut artistes danced. Arunabho Dey performed “Tomar Mohan Rupe”, while Epshita Sikdar sang “Shorot, Tomar Arun Alor Anjali”. Both songs are by Tagore.

Students of St Joseph International School and College presented a group rendition of Tagore’s “Kon Khepa Srabon Chhute Elo”. Parthib Saha performed “Shiuli Phul, Shiuli Phul, Kemon Bhul”, while Izmir Mustafiz recited Tagore’s “Shorot (Esechhe Shorot, Himer Porosh)”. Angkita Sarker sang “Omal Dhobol Pale Legechhe”, accompanied by Chhayanaut. The segment also included a group recitation of Nazrul’s “Kon Sharate Purnima-Chand”.

Representing the host institution, St Joseph Higher Secondary School, students performed Tagore’s “Aaj Prothom Phuler Pabo Prasadkhani” together. Sarthok Saha sang Nazrul’s “Esho Sharad Prater Pathik”, followed by Badhan Kundu’s rendition of Tagore’s “Hridoye Chhile Jege”. Dibbomoy Desh performed Atul Prasad Sen’s “Meghera Dol Bendhe Jay”.

Chhayanaut’s own segment featured a group song and dance performance of Tagore’s “Ogo Shephaliboner Moner Kamona”. Prema Dewanjee performed his “He Khoniker Otithi”, while Shatadru Sarker sang “Amar Nayan Bhulano Ele”.

The programme concluded with a group song and dance presentation of Tagore’s “Aaj Dhaner Khete”. Singers from all participating institutions joined the performance, alongside dancers from Chhayanaut. The national anthem also formed part of the programme.

The event continued Chhayanaut’s effort to bring seasonal cultural celebrations to educational institutions and encourage younger generations to engage with the country’s musical and literary heritage.

The second day of the Autumn 2026 celebration is scheduled for Saturday at St Gregory’s High School and College. Students from St Gregory’s and Nalanda High School will join Chhayanaut in the programme, which is set to begin at 7:30am and remain open to all.
