Kangana Ranaut has taken legal action against the circulation of allegedly obscene and AI-generated material using her identity, asking the Delhi High Court to order its removal from the internet, reports Hindustan Times.
The actor and BJP MP from Mandi told the court that the content maligns and defames her while violating her personality rights. Her lawyer also raised concerns over fake news and AI-generated material that falsely attributes statements to Ranaut.
However, her legal team clarified that the plea does not seek action against memes or satire involving the actor. The lawyer said the present case focuses on obscene and allegedly fake online content.
Justice Vikas Mahajan issued summons to the defendants after hearing the plea. The court has indicated that it will consider an interim order in the matter.
Ranaut is among several public figures who have recently approached Indian courts over the unauthorised use of their names, images and identities, particularly through AI-generated material.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Pawan Kalyan and others have also sought legal protection of their personality rights.
Ranaut was last seen in ‘Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata’, directed by Manoj Tapadia.
