Barvida is considering Payra Port as a new gateway for reconditioned vehicle imports after a delegation inspected the port on Wednesday and discussed its suitability for handling vehicle shipments.
The delegation, led by Barvida President Abdul Haque, visited the port at the invitation of Payra Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Syed Saiful Islam.
After the inspection, Barvida representatives met port officials to discuss proposed conditions, infrastructure, security and the port’s capacity to transport imported vehicles to Dhaka and other districts.
Syed Saiful Islam said he wanted Barvida to become a key stakeholder in the port’s development.
Payra Port Authority Member for Harbour and Marine Commodore Mohammad Jamal Uddin Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
Patuakhali-4 lawmaker ABM Mosharraf Hossain urged Barvida to help accelerate port operations and assured the association of logical support regarding the recent movement over electric vehicles.
Barishal Customs Commissioner Arun Kumar Biswas assured importers of necessary customs assistance within existing rules and regulations.
Barvida Vice-President-1 Saiful Islam Samrat, Treasurer Saiful Alam, Cultural Secretary Golam Rabbani Shanto and Executive Members Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan and Mohammad Zahir Iqbal attended the inspection and meeting.
Senior officials from Payra Port and Barishal Customs House, including Payra Port Authority Director for Traffic Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, were also present.
