Buyers returned to Dhaka stocks on Wednesday, ending a four-session losing streak and lifting the benchmark DSEX by 38 points to 5,463.
The turnaround was visible across the market. As many as 191 issues advanced, up sharply from just 76 a day earlier, while 134 declined and 66 remained unchanged out of 391 shares and units traded on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
That marked a clear reversal from Tuesday, when 264 issues fell and only 76 gained.
The recovery spread to the other major indices. The blue-chip DS30 climbed 19 points to 2,096, while the Shariah-based DSES added 11 points to 1,086.
Trading activity also picked up, with turnover rising Tk40.66 crore to Tk604.83 crore from Tk564.17 crore in the previous session.
Evince Textiles led the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk38.45 crore changing hands. Paramount Textiles followed with Tk30.16 crore, while BRAC Bank ranked third with Tk20.06 crore.
Saiham Textile, Orion Infusion, Sonali Aansh, Matin Spinning, Apex Foods, IPDC Finance and Malek Spinning were also among the top 10 companies by turnover.
Evince Textiles Limited also led the gainers, climbing 9.52 per cent to Tk16.10 from Tk14.70.
BSRM Steel followed with a 9.12 per cent rise to Tk90.90 from Tk83.30, while BSRM Limited gained 7.86 per cent to Tk101.50 from Tk94.10.
Other top gainers included Saiham Textile, up 6.69 per cent, Sonali Aansh 5.79 per cent, Orion Infusion 4.69 per cent, Eastern Cables 4.54 per cent, Shinepukur Ceramics 4.30 per cent, and Eastern Lubricants and Rahim Textile 4.25 per cent each.
On the other side, Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund topped the losers’ list, falling 9.49 per cent to Tk14.30 from Tk15.80.
Prime Finance and Investment came next, dropping 3.85 per cent, or 10 paisa, to Tk2.50, while AFC Agro Biotech Limited fell 3.33 per cent to Tk5.10 from Tk5.30.
Other companies among the top 10 losers included Exim Bank First Mutual Fund, down 6.90 per cent, Sunlife Insurance 6.30 per cent, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund 6.16 per cent, Prime Bank First ICB AMCL Mutual Fund 5.88 per cent, Paramount Textile 5.56 per cent, GBB Power 4.76 per cent and Familytex 4.55 per cent.
Trading was mixed on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), where 63 of the 167 issues traded advanced, 85 declined and 19 remained unchanged.
The overall CASPI index rose 98 points, although turnover slipped to Tk14.75 crore from Tk16.64 crore in the previous session.
