A delegation including China Genixgreen Director Don on Wednesday inspected the site of a 250-kilowatt solar panel project at Ocean Hatchery in Shyamnagar, Satkhira.

The project, being implemented jointly by Symar Power Engineering and Genixgreen Bangladesh, is designed to integrate solar power with the hatchery’s production process.

During the visit, the delegation discussed the proposed solar system, a special panel installation method, integration with the hatchery’s production process, power connection and safety.

The delegation also included Genixgreen Bangladesh Chief Engineer Mustafizur Rahman, Satkhira Palli Bidyut Samity General Manager Azizur Rahman, West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCL) Satkhira region official Sowaib Hossain and Syma Power Engineering Managing Director Mir Md Golam Mostafa.

Syma Power Engineering Director (Operations) Syma Sajedul Karim said this is the first time such technology is being used in a bagda shrimp hatchery in Bangladesh.

The solar panels can be folded to one side when needed, allowing the hatchery’s tank area to be completely cleared during drying. A battery storage system will also be installed to provide uninterrupted power when electricity from the national grid is unavailable.

Karim said the system is expected to generate 60,000 to 70,000 units a month, with 40,000 to 50,000 surplus units potentially supplied to the national grid.

He said the project could serve as a model for other shrimp hatcheries.

Hatchery owner Abdul Aziz said the investment is approximately Tk1.2 crore to Tk1.25 crore.

Satkhira Palli Bidyut Samity General Manager Azizur Rahman said the government has set a target of producing 10,000 megawatts of solar power by 2030 and will purchase surplus solar electricity at Tk10.50 per unit.

He said there is significant potential for similar projects at other hatcheries in Shyamnagar.
