Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) is set to host Tribandhon, a group painting exhibition featuring the works of three emerging Bangladeshi artists, Md Fariaz Emran, Niharika Awhona Barsaat and Surovi Akter.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on June 12 at 6 pm at La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka and will remain open to visitors until June 17.
Bringing together three distinct artistic voices, Tribandhon explores themes of identity, memory, nature, human connection and everyday life. While each artist employs a unique visual language, the exhibition collectively presents a dialogue on observation, empathy, resilience and transformation.
Niharika Awhona Barsaat, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at Banaras Hindu University in India with Mural as an optional specialisation, creates poetic visual narratives where nature and personal experience intersect. Working primarily with acrylic and watercolour, she incorporates recurring motifs such as birds, trees and feminine figures to explore healing, growth and self-discovery. Her works encourage reflection on humanity’s relationship with nature and the unseen forces that shape individual lives.
Surovi Akter, a graduate of the University of Development Alternative with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting, focuses on one of the most expressive features of the human face, the eye. Through detailed portraits rendered with red ballpoint pen and coloured pencil on brown paper, she examines emotion, perception and human connection. Her works invite viewers to engage closely with the psychological depth and individuality reflected in each gaze.
Md Fariaz Emran draws inspiration from Dhaka’s streets, particularly the lives of rickshaw pullers and other often-overlooked urban workers. Also a student of Banaras Hindu University pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting with Mural as an optional specialisation, he employs layered watercolour techniques and figure-centred compositions to portray moments of dignity, resilience and introspection. His paintings highlight the contributions of those who help sustain the rhythm of city life while remaining largely absent from mainstream narratives.
Through diverse techniques and perspectives, Tribandhon offers audiences an opportunity to engage with three compelling artistic practices united by a shared sensitivity to the world around them. The exhibition celebrates art’s ability to foster connections between individuals, communities and the environments they inhabit, according to AFD.
Open for all, the exhibition will run daily from 3 pm to 9 pm.
