For a good number of Bangladeshi expatriate workers, returning to their jobs in Saudi Arabia has become an anxious search for airline tickets after cancellations of 61 flight, including direct and transit ones, disrupted travel plans for more than 9,000 passengers.

On Tuesday, workers gathered at the Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Balaka headquarters in Dhaka, hoping to secure seats on alternative routes via Medina, only to find that available tickets were far fewer than those seeking them.

A crowd formed outside the ticket counter as expatriate workers began arriving early in the morning in an effort to return to their workplaces in Saudi Arabia.

With direct travel options disrupted, many are now trying to reach Saudi Arabia via Medina.

However, visits to the ticket counter have done little to ease their concerns, as uncertainty over ticket availability persists.

Passengers said they remain worried about when they will be able to travel, spending much of their time searching for tickets and waiting for updates.
