A Dhaka court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on retired deputy inspector general (DIG) of Bangladesh Police Sheikh Nazmul Alam.
Judge Md Shabbir Fayez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court’s decision was confirmed by Md Riaz Hossain, the Bench Assistant of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
According to the ACC’s application, a formal investigation is currently underway against the retired official regarding allegations of corruption and the acquisition of illegal wealth.
The commission sought restrictions to prevent the former DIG from leaving the country and to ensure that the ongoing probe is not hampered.
