International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam has said that any irregularities in cases where verdicts have already been delivered will be examined and, if necessary, legal action will be taken.

Speaking to reporters at his office on Tuesday Aminul Islam said, “I have not had the opportunity to review all the cases that have been concluded at the tribunal; however, we will examine all of them. If legal steps are required regarding any of these files, we will take them.”

When asked whether cases that have already received verdicts could be retried, the chief prosecutor stated that he would scrutinise the matter and take appropriate legal measures if required.

He noted that 24 formal charges have been filed at the tribunal so far, with 21 cases currently under trial.

“Personally, I have not yet reviewed the details of these cases. I will examine whether the formal charges are correct, whether the investigations were proper, and all other aspects. I believe that everything has been conducted appropriately. But if I detect any irregularities, legal action will be taken,” he said.

Commenting on the outgoing Chief Prosecutor’s team, Aminul Islam said, “I see considerable success on their part, as 24 formal charges have already been filed, 21 of which are at the trial stage. Upon enquiry, I have found that several other cases are still under investigation and work is ongoing. If there are any mistakes or irregularities in their work, we will review them. But to claim that no work has been done would be unjust.”

He emphasised the importance of transparency and efficiency in tribunal operations.

“We want this tribunal to function fully according to the law and for its operations to be conducted with greater transparency. In line with the aspirations of the July uprising, we have discussed how cases can be disposed of swiftly. We have agreed to take the necessary steps so that trials can commence at the earliest opportunity,” he said.

Addressing allegations of corruption against Prosecutor Tamim, Aminul Islam said, “These allegations will be investigated thoroughly. I want to make it clear that if anyone in the prosecution is involved in corruption, strict legal action will be taken. We will demonstrate that this tribunal is entirely corruption-free and delivers justice to international standards. No discussions outside the judicial process will be permitted.”
