Three more people have died from the measles outbreak in the last 24 hours, with 1,108 new infections recorded across the country, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services.

During the 24-hour period from 8am on 14 April to 8am on 15 April, two suspected and one laboratory-confirmed measles patient died. Additionally, 1,032 new suspected patients were identified nationwide, with 76 confirmed through testing.

During this period, 666 new patients were admitted to hospitals, while 468 recovered and returned home.

One-month toll: 32 confirmed deaths, 166 suspected

Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles patients has reached 19,161, of which 2,973 have been laboratory-confirmed. A total of 12,318 patients have been hospitalised over the past month, with 9,772 recovering and being discharged.

The death toll has risen sharply as the outbreak has intensified. Over the past month, 32 people have died from confirmed measles and 166 from suspected measles.

Dhaka division worst-hit

Dhaka division continues to record the highest rates of infection and death. In the last 24 hours, 505 suspected patients were identified in the division, with two suspected and one confirmed patient dying.

Rajshahi division ranks second in infections, with 261 new suspected patients identified, followed by Chattogram with 100, Khulna with 70, and Barishal with 65.

A press release signed by Professor Dr Md. Zahid Rayhan, Additional Director General (Administration) of the DGHS, said Dhaka division currently has 8,263 suspected patients undergoing treatment, while Rajshahi division has 3,747.

The health department is intensifying efforts to control the situation, with the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room collecting and monitoring information around the clock, the release added.
