Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the ongoing polls currently taking place in the country is no rigged election.
He made this remark in response to journalists’ questions after casting his vote at Eskaton Garden High School in the capital on Thursday morning.
Stating that the Election Commission (EC) has taken all kinds of preparations after a sleepless night, AMM Nasir Uddin said, “A fair election is taking place across the country. People in villages and towns are immersed in the festival of voting.”
Asserting that the EC is not working in favour of anyone, he said, “The election taking place is not rigged. There will be no more rigged elections in this country. The people of the country must forget about rigged elections.”
“Bangladesh has boarded the train of democracy. The train of democracy will reach its destination, insh’allah,” added the CEC.
He added, “I consider myself proud to be able to make this last contribution to the nation. I express hope that the vote will be held beautifully till the end. I believe that through this election, trust in the Election Commission will be restored.”
AMM Nasir Uddin further said, “Even though a couple of minor incidents occurred outside the polling centres, immediate action has been taken. Election officials have been instructed to remain neutral. If anyone denies this, they will have to be held accountable on the Day of Judgment.”
The 13th national parliamentary election and referendum began at 7:30am on Thursday. Voters will cast their votes in 299 parliamentary constituencies across the country until 4:30pm.
