Tanzid Hasan struck his first Test century as Bangladesh strengthened their position against Australia in Darwin, while Najmul Hossain Shanto also reached fifty. Bangladesh reached 233 for three after 66 overs before Tanzid departed for 101.
Tanzid reached three figures from 188 balls, punching a full delivery past Nathan Lyon towards long-off. The century came in only his second Test and marked his first three-figure score in international cricket.
Shanto followed with a composed 50 from 74 balls, driving another full delivery to long-off. The pair had helped Bangladesh move beyond Australia’s first-innings 198.
Tanzid then fell for 101 from 197 balls. He attacked another full Lyon delivery around off stump but picked out Mitchell Starc at long-off. His dismissal ended a 93-run third-wicket stand with Shanto.
Tanzid struck eight fours and one six. He also survived twice, first on nought and later on 62.
Mushfiqur Rahim joined Shanto after Tanzid’s departure as Bangladesh continued to push for a substantial first-innings lead.
