Bangladesh went to lunch at 39 for 3 on day two of the second Test against Australia in Mackay, still trailing by 107 runs.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was unbeaten on 23, while Mushfiqur Rahim was on four at the break.
Earlier, Shoriful Islam completed a historic seven-wicket haul as Australia were bowled out for 210.
Shoriful removed Cameron Green for 67 to finish with 7 for 46. It was the first seven-wicket haul by a Bangladesh fast bowler in international cricket. His figures were also the best by a Bangladesh bowler in an away Test.
Australia started the day at 165 for 8. Green and Nathan Lyon added useful runs before Shoriful trapped Green lbw with a yorker.
Lyon then attacked the Bangladesh bowlers and remained unbeaten on 32. Taijul Islam removed Josh Hazlewood for six to end the innings.
Bangladesh then suffered another poor start with the bat.
Mitchell Starc removed Shadman Islam for one before bowling Mominul Haque for a duck with his next delivery. Bangladesh were suddenly 5 for 2.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shanto tried to rebuild the innings. But captain Pat Cummins struck in his first over and removed Tanzid for nine.
Shanto responded with some attacking shots and hit Starc for two fours in one over. He and Mushfiqur then took Bangladesh to lunch without further damage.
Bangladesh now need a strong partnership after losing three early wickets, with Australia still holding a 107-run lead.
