Australia beat Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs inside two days in Mackay to draw the two-Test series 1-1.
Bangladesh were bowled out for just 95 in their second innings after making only 76 in the first. Australia made 210 in their only innings at the Great Barrier Reef Arena.
Mitchell Starc finished with 10 wickets in the match as Australia produced a strong response after their nine-wicket defeat in the first Test in Darwin.
Bangladesh started day two with Australia on 165 for 8. Shoriful Islam completed a historic seven-wicket haul by removing Cameron Green for 67.
Australia were eventually bowled out for 210, with Nathan Lyon unbeaten on 32. Shoriful finished with 7 for 46, the first seven-wicket haul by a Bangladesh fast bowler in international cricket.
But Bangladesh could not build on Shoriful’s effort.
Starc struck twice in successive balls early in the second innings. He removed Shadman Islam for one before bowling Mominul Haque for a duck.
Pat Cummins then dismissed Tanzid Hasan Tamim for nine as Bangladesh slipped to 24 for 3.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim offered some resistance. Shanto made 31 before Nathan Lyon removed him with Bangladesh on 51.
Starc then dismissed Litton Das for a duck. It was Litton’s third consecutive duck in the series, with Starc taking his wicket on all three occasions.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz made only one before Cummins removed him. Hasan Mahmud followed for two as Bangladesh continued to collapse.
Starc returned to bowl Taijul Islam for seven and complete his 10-wicket match haul.
Bangladesh reached tea at 95 for 8, still needing 51 runs to make Australia bat again. But the match lasted only three more deliveries after the break.
Lyon removed Taskin Ahmed for eight with the first ball after tea. He then dismissed Shoriful for a duck two balls later to end the match.
Mushfiqur was left unbeaten on 29.
The heavy defeat brought Bangladesh back down after their historic victory in Darwin. The visitors had won the opening Test by nine wickets, but Australia’s dominant win in Mackay ensured the series finished 1-1.
