Four members of a family, including a former schoolteacher, were found dead at their home in Machuapara Mandir area of Rangpur city on Saturday night.
Police suspect the killings took place three to four days earlier, reports UNB.
Sumit Chowdhury, acting superintendent of police of the CID in Rangpur, said the bodies were recovered around 11:30pm. Of the four, one was found on the rooftop, two on the terrace, and one inside a room of the house.
The deceased were identified as Ganapati Chakraborty alias Jewel, 65, a retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School; his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 50; their daughter Parthi Chakraborty, 25; and son Priyam Chakraborty, 12.
Police detained three people for questioning but did not disclose their identities.
Officials said the house was found ransacked, with places where cash and gold were kept broken open.
Ganapati had been running a homoeopathic chamber at his residence after retirement. Parthi was a master’s student at Carmichael College, while Priyam was a fifth‑grade student at Rangpur Zilla School.
According to police, relatives became suspicious after failing to reach any member of the family over the phone. They went to the house on Saturday night and found the main entrance locked from inside.
With the help of locals, they entered the premises by climbing over a wall from a neighbouring house and opened a window. They found the rooms in disarray and noticed a strong foul smell before discovering the bodies.
CID crime scene experts and other police units joined the investigation. Nazmul Kader, officer‑in‑charge of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station, said efforts were underway to identify the killers.
The cause of the killings could not yet be confirmed, but the condition of the bodies suggested the incident occurred three to four days earlier, said CID SP Sumit Chowdhury.
