The headteacher of Iqra Abdul Jabbar High School in Lohagara, Chattogram, has alleged receiving death threats over the phone after foiling an abduction attempt on a ninth‑grade student and handing the suspect to police.
Md Jamal Uddin Bhuiyan filed a written complaint with Lohagara Police Station, stating that a youth identifying himself as “David Jihad” threatened to abduct and kill him.
According to the complaint, around 1:30pm on Saturday, ninth‑grader Abdullah Hossain, 16, son of Nazim Uddin of Khaiarkul, West Amirabad, was abducted from the school by fellow student Arian Md Ayan, 15, and four to five unidentified accomplices.
On learning of the incident, Jamal Uddin reviewed CCTV footage and, with assistant teachers, chased the abductors.
Abdullah was rescued near a restaurant beside Ice Park at Amirabad Station, and Ayan was caught and handed over to Lohagara police. However, the other accomplices fled.
The school authorities said Ayan was caught a year ago with a hockey stick but was released after his guardians gave a written statement that he would not repeat such behaviour.
Following Ayan’s handover to police, Jamal Uddin received a threatening call around 7:30pm on his mobile. The caller, later identified as Mehejad Hossain Jihan, 19, introduced himself as “David Jihad”.
In the recorded call, the caller is heard saying, “I will show you what I can do. I am David Jihad. Go file a case at the police station. Every member of your family, your son… you touched the wrong place, understand!”
The caller also threatened that if legal action was taken, the headmaster and his family will face assault, abduction, murder, and false cases.
Investigations revealed Jihan is the son of Md Javed of Ukil Para, School Road, Amirabad. The number used belongs to Ripon, a student of Bar Aulia College in Lohagara. Ripon said Jihan had used his phone that evening, but he did not know whom he called or why.
Meanwhile, after Ayan was brought to the police station, he was released on a written bond through mediation by a local Jubo Dal activist and a neighbor of the headmaster. Later, a compromise meeting was held at Lohagara Police Station in the presence of both parties’ guardians.
When contacted, headmaster Jamal Uddin said, “For the safety of our students, we informed police. Since the accused are minors and their guardians assured such incidents would not recur, we agreed to a compromise. But after the threats from the youth calling himself ‘David Jihad,’ I am deeply concerned about my family’s safety.”
Lohagara Police Station Officer‑in‑charge Md Abdullah said, “This is not a major issue. It was mainly a misunderstanding among students, resolved through mutual compromise.”
He claimed he was not aware of details regarding the threatening call or the written complaint.
