New President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir entered Bangabhaban for the first time on Sunday morning to begin official duties.
He was accorded a guard of honour by a contingent of the President Guard Regiment around 11am.
On August 20, Fakhrul was elected president in a direct vote in the Jatiya Sangsad — the first such election in 35 years. Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin declared him winner after the count.
He took oath the following day, and on Saturday paid tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar, formally beginning his state responsibilities.
Sunday’s entry into Bangabhaban marked the start of his regular official activities as head of state.
