Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the submission of a charge sheet against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on charges of providing false information in her CV to secure appointment as director of World Health Organization (WHO).

Saidur Rahman Khan, secretary of the ACC, disclosed this information at a regular press conference of the commission on Sunday.

According to ACC officials, Putul included information in the CV submitted for the position of regional director for South-East Asia at the WHO claiming she worked as an “Honorary Specialist/Expert” at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.

However, the ACC mentioned in its investigation that this information was false and fabricated.

The commission said Putul gained the opportunity to be appointed to the key post at the international organisation by using that experience in her CV, and that influence was exerted during the recruitment process to prepare and verify necessary documents based on the information provided in her CV.

Allegations have also been brought against Putul of exerting pressure without providing an opportunity to open files or verify information through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Information was subsequently sent to the headquarters of the WHO in Geneva, Switzerland, through the permanent mission of Bangladesh, the United Nations office, and other international organisations. ACC officials claim that Putul secured the appointment to the post based on these pieces of information.

“By providing false information in her CV and abusing power, Putul tarnished the reputation of the state. Based on these allegations, the commission has approved the submission of a charge sheet against her in court,” said Saidur Rahman Khan, secretary of the ACC.

ACC officials noted that the investigation highlighted she carried out these activities while serving as chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Shuchona Foundation.

Earlier, the ACC filed a case against Putul on corruption charges at the ACC Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1 on 20 March 2025.
