Sydney Sweeney has spoken candidly about the constant scrutiny surrounding the appearance of young women in Hollywood, saying persistent plastic surgery rumours reveal more about the industry’s pressures than about her own face.

In a new conversation with Allure, the 28-year-old actor sat down with her The Housemaid co-star Amanda Seyfried and was asked to clear up a beauty rumour that has followed her career. Rather than focus on the speculation itself, Sweeney used the moment to highlight how early and how intensely such commentary begins.

The actor said that speculation about cosmetic procedures has circulated since she was a teenager and that it reflects an unrealistic expectation placed on performers, particularly women. “I have never had work done. I am actually terrified of needles. People really have no idea,” she said, adding that the rumours have persisted regardless of what she says.

Seyfried lightened the moment with a joke about offering her a sedative if she ever chose to try anything, but supported Sweeney’s point about public obsession with physical appearance.

Sweeney’s remarks come at a time when many young actors have begun to speak openly about the pressure to maintain a certain look in order to be taken seriously. She noted that the scrutiny often overshadows the work itself, which can be exhausting. For her, shutting down the rumours is less about correcting the record and more about pushing back against a culture that treats women’s faces as public property.

The actor, who has several high profile projects lined up following the success of ‘Anyone but You’ and ‘Immaculate’, said she hopes the conversation encourages a shift towards judging performers by their craft rather than by speculation about their bodies.
