Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has called for the involvement of the younger generation in addressing the growing global environmental and climate crises.
Swapon made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a two-day “Green Energy Olympiad 2026” at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital this morning.
He noted that environmental problems are a global challenge that people often do not fully realise until they are directly affected. Consequently, creating awareness and spreading it across generations is now the demand of time.
Swapon further stated that environmental crises differ from other short-term development issues as their impacts are long-term and far-reaching. In this regard, he stressed that human awareness and behavioural changes are extremely important.
The minister emphasised building applicable knowledge among the youth to ensure sustainable lifestyles, responsible urbanisation, and development that is in harmony with nature.
Highlighting how the global energy crisis and the international political situation directly affect both the environment and the economy, Swapon urged for the coordination of education and research with environment, politics, and economics to achieve realistic and applicable knowledge.
He described such initiatives as a strategic investment for future generations and expressed his thanks to the organisers.
