Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Thursday called for making the Education Engineering Department (EED) more dynamic and efficient to boost the development of school infrastructure nationwide.
Speaking at a meeting with EED officials, the minister highlighted the department’s critical role in improving the country’s educational facilities, according to a press release.
He said the government would consider strengthening the department’s organisational structure and expanding its workforce to enhance its capacity.
“Many projects aimed at developing education infrastructure are ongoing, and the EED must play a more proactive role in their implementation,” Ehsanul Hoque Milon said.
He also noted that the department’s operations could be expanded to the upazila level, similar to the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and other institutions.
Operating under a unified administrative framework, he said, would improve coordination and accelerate project execution.
Emphasising construction quality, the minister warned that newly built school buildings often deteriorate within a few years.
“Contractors must be carefully selected based on their expertise, manpower, and ability to complete projects on time. Proper policies and effective monitoring are essential to ensure quality,” he said.
The minister also stressed the importance of modern technology and innovative design in construction. He urged young engineers to adopt innovative thinking and new technologies to make school buildings more durable, attractive, and cost-effective.
He concluded by saying such meetings would be held more regularly to address challenges directly with officials and take necessary initiatives for problem-solving.
